Why do you think they started it in the first place? It wasn’t because they were trying to be nice and offer a great new free service. Second, some commenters have said DME didn’t exist before 2005. I can only imagine for the family with 2 strollers and 3 or 4 pieces of luggage what a disaster that will be…as well as the train service who now needs to multiply that by hundreds of similar families trying to board or get off the train.
In addition to being required to take your luggage with you on to the train… and then off the train… and then again on to a bus to your resort from Downtown Disney with your family in tow, I would assume it will be at least 2 hours of travel time (or more). Would it surprise anyone if it were $15-$20 one way? I wouldn’t be. There will be a charge per person…so for a big group, it will still be a potentially large added expense.
